STATEMENT: NFIB Response to Gov. Abbott's Plan to Reopen the TX Economy

Date: April 27, 2020

NFIB State Director Annie Spilman released the following statement today in response to Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement with additional details about the first phase of the State of Texas’ plan to reopen the economy:

“Governor Abbott’s plan allowing retail, restaurants, movie theaters, and malls to reopen at 25% of occupancy is a measured approach that gives employers and employees hope for the future. Through this gradual reopen, businesses that rely primarily on foot traffic and customer interaction will be able to bring back at least some of their employees and generate desperately-needed revenue while maintaining social distancing and following standard health protocols in order to protect against the spread of COVID-19. If this phase is rolled out successfully, the second phase of the plan will allow the same businesses to increase customer capacity to 50% by May 18, with the intention of gyms, barbershops and hair salons reopening as well.”
