NFIB State Director Mark Grant released the following statement today in response to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s decision to withdraw his emergency rule making it a Class A misdemeanor if a “nonessential” business opened before state officials gave the go-ahead:
“Our members are tremendously relieved. The COVID-19 shutdown has been devastating to Illinois’ small businesses. While our members understand the need to maintain social distancing and avoid a spike in COVID-19 cases, Governor Pritzker’s emergency rule threatening owners with fines and jail time for opening ahead of schedule was insulting and demoralizing and completely unnecessary.
“I want to thank our members who responded quickly with their collective voice and JCAR members for holding the line on this.”
