NFIB Joins Coalition Urging Legislature to Repeal Graduated Income Tax

Date: May 19, 2020

NFIB today joined a broad coalition of organizations from across Illinois in urging the legislature to repeal Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 1, which would impose a graduated income tax scheme on Illinois.

The state constitution specifically allows for this action by allowing for a proposed amendment to be “withdrawn by a vote of a majority of the members elected to each house.”

“It’s been our position all along that the proposed progressive tax is a financial no-win situation for small businesses,” NFIB State Director Mark Grant said. “Given the massive decimation of our state economy due to the coronavirus and the ensuing lock-down, pushing forward with the progressive tax amendment is pouring gas on the fire.”
