Small Business Owners in Indiana Thankful Their Doors Are Still Open for Business
NFIB, or the National Federation of Independent Business in Indiana, is thanking Governor Eric Holcomb for listening to small business owners and allowing Indiana’s hard-working entrepreneurs to keep their doors open.
“The governor knows that Indiana small business owners are doing everything they can to keep their employees and customers safe in the face of this unprecedented pandemic,” said Barbara Quandt, NFIB State Director in Indiana. “Gov. Holcomb recognizes that our small business owners are complying with state and local COVID regulations because they live in fear every day that they will be shut down again. A recent NFIB survey found that one in five small businesses will have to shut their doors in the next six months if economic conditions don’t improve. Small business owners here in Indiana appreciate that the governor understands this grave economic situation and is giving small business owners the opportunity to keep paying their employees and providing Hoosiers the jobs they need to stay afloat during this precarious and scary time. “
On December 9th, Gov. Holcomb created new restrictions of hospitals and social gatherings. The governor also said Hoosiers would continue to follow the mask mandate that started on July 27. Right now Indiana has a 14% positivity rate with more than 3,200 Hoosiers hospitalized.
The governor said hospitals are required to postpone for reschedule non-emergency procedures on in-patient hospitals from December 15th through January 3. The state is also capping social gatherings. Those limits are 25 people for counties in red, 50 for counties in orange, 100 for counties in yellow and 250 people for counties in blue. You can see a map here.
Also, K-12 school extracurricular activities are allowed to continue, however, attendance is limited to participants, support personnel and parents and guardians plus their minor children for counties in the red metric. Counties in blue, yellow, and orange are required to limit capacity to 25%.
Holcomb also unveiled his Top 10 To-Do List for Hoosiers. While some may be very familiar, some may be a little new.
- Limiting the size of gatherings.
- Pausing nonemergency procedures at hospitals.
- Following the mask mandate.
- Keeping a 6-foot social distance from others.
- Washing hands throughout the day.
- Getting tested if you are sick or have symptoms.
- Staying home and isolating if you test positive.
- Asking employers to talk to their employees about healthy behaviors outside of the workplace.
- Asking people to give blood and to food pantries that are seeing an increased need.
- Staying informed about the vaccine.
