Governor Calls Special Session to Address COVID-19 Liability Protection

Date: August 03, 2020

NFIB State Director Jim Brown released the following statement today in response to Gov. Bill Lee’s call for a special session of the General Assembly to address COVID-19 liability protections for small businesses and other organizations.

“NFIB thanks Governor Bill Lee for calling a special session to consider much-needed COVID-related liability protections, and we thank Lt. Gov. Randy McNally and House Speaker Cameron Sexton for working on this effort, as well. We’ve heard concerns from many NFIB members that they are overly exposed to frivolous lawsuits, and how vital it is to enact reasonable legal standards that protect their businesses and jobs in these extraordinary times.”

Liability protection is big concern for small business owners. When NFIB surveyed its members this spring, it found that 68% of owners were moderately or very concerned about increased liability because of the novel coronavirus.
