Eliminating Personal Property Tax in Wisconsin

Date: June 15, 2021

Take Action On Small Business Issues In Wisconsin

Tax reform is on the agenda of the Legislature as lawmakers write the next state budget.

NFIB has made the elimination of the personal property tax a top priority for tax reform this session; a reform backed by 82 percent of the respondents to NFIB’s state survey ballot.

The personal property tax is a small business tax that violates the basic principles of tax fairness, simple, cost-effective administration, and low enforcements costs.

For Wisconsin to be competitive with surrounding states, promote economic development, and encourage small business growth, the personal property tax must be eliminated.

Legislators will soon determine whether the personal property tax should be eliminated or continue to allow this burdensome tax to be assessed on the personal property of small business owners.
