Small Businesses Applaud Gov. Lamont’s Elimination of Business Entity Tax

Date: February 14, 2019

“It’s a wonderful way to say Connecticut is open for business”

HARTFORD, Feb. 14, 2019 – NFIB, the leading small business association in Connecticut with thousands of members in the state, is grateful to Governor Ned Lamont for announcing today he will eliminate the Business Entity Tax that companies are required to pay, along with certain filing requirements.

“This will send a signal to every small business owner across the state that Connecticut intends to become more business-friendly and wants them to grow, stay put, and remain open,” said Andrew Markowski, state director of NFIB in Connecticut. “It’s refreshing to hear Gov. Lamont say state government wants to be a partner of entrepreneurs and not just stand in their way.”

“When it was passed in 2001 this tax was supposed to be temporary, but it never went away, remaining a thorn in the side of small business owners for years,” added Markowski. “It was a tax for simply for operating business which was insulting and burdensome, especially when added to the litany of other fees, requirements, regulations, and other taxes. We say thank you to the Governor for taking this step!”
