AT LEAST WE AREN'T LAST? SMALL BUSINESS TAX RANKING PLACES CONNECTICUT ON BOTTOM RUNG

HARTFORD: In response to a report released this morning by
The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council (SBEC), the following statement
may be attributed to National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)
Connecticut state director, Andrew Markowski:

Our
members know all too well how expensive and onerous the tax system is on small
businesses in Connecticut. Hearing that we are 41st in the nation for small business
taxes is unfortunately no longer surprising. If anything, it’s nice not to be
last, which is often where we find
ourselves on national economic rankings.

Reports
like this one from SBEC should serve as a wakeup call to legislators that have
increasingly placed financial and regulatory burdens on the small business
sector without acknowledging the detrimental impact that they would have on
jobs and revenue for the state. There should be no one left in Hartford
claiming that our business climate is encouraging growth and prosperity.
