NFIB-member input vital for shaping the right public policy on a complex issue
Legislation passed this year called for the creation of a Family and Medical Leave Task Force to study a possible implementation of a paid-leave program in Colorado.
That Task Force is now asking for public comment, and it’s vital NFIB members make their voices heard.
According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s public-comment invitation, “The Task Force is studying a program or policy that allows workers to take a specified amount of time off work for the birth or adoption of a new baby, to treat their own serious mental or physical medical illness, to care for a loved one with a serious mental or physical illness, to address certain needs arising from a family member’s active duty service, or because the worker is unable to work because the worker or a family member is the victim of abuse such as domestic violence, stalking, or sexual assault; to receive some compensation while on leave; and return to their job after leave.”
As with all proposals of this magnitude, small businesses will bear a greater share of the brunt than big businesses. NFIB Colorado is highly encouraging your participation. More detail is in the invitation link above. More about Senate Bill 19-188, which established the task force, can be read here.
Your comments to the FAMLI Task Force can be sent to famlitaskforce.com. You can also email them to Admira Makas at [email protected], or mail them to 251 E. 12th Avenue, Denver, CO 80203, Attn: Admira Makas. The deadline to submit written comments is Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019. “All written comments will be made publicly available at famlitaskforce.com,” according to the department.
