DENVER, Jan. 9, 2020—From Tony Gagliardi, Colorado state director for NFIB, the state’s and nation’s Voice of Small Business.

“If one were listening for strategic ideas and plans to resolve the tough issues facing Colorado, you left disappointed after Gov. Jared Polis’s state-of-the-state speech today. He seemed overly cautious of getting too deeply involved in controversial issues and content to turn everything over to the Legislature to solve, implying ‘I’ll see you when you’re done in May.’

“The heavily debated paid family leave issue received a brief 90 seconds of mention without detail, except to say he wanted coverage for state employees. Transportation received even less time with no mention of a plan or how much he proposes to spend. And, in stating he was accepting the recommendations of the Secured Savings Taskforce for a state-run retirement plan for the private sector, he seemed to be passing the ball to the Legislature on this issue, too.”
