Small business looks ahead to 2021 legislative session

DENVER, Nov. 4, 2020—From Tony Gagliardi, Colorado state director for NFIB, the state and nation’s leading small-business association.

“While the loss of Senator Cory Gardner is a disappointment, NFIB Colorado must continue to look to the future. Not only in issues that face us like COVID-19 liability protections but also the recruitment and development of legislative candidates.

“One silver lining from Election Night is that a number of incumbent pro-small-business legislators will be returning to their respective chambers, and we are especially pleased to see Loren Boebert elected from Colorado’s Third Congressional District.

“The passage of Proposition 118, a paid family and medical leave program, and it’s $1.3 billion in new taxes is no doubt another disappointment. But NFIB members can rejoice in the number of pro-small business candidates returning to the Legislature in 2021. NFIB Colorado will continue to look for all opportunities to work across the aisle. Although the next Legislature will no longer have to deal with the paid leave issue, we look forward to working with members on finding ways small-business owners can prosper enough to absorb its cost.”
