NFIB Statement on the Passing of Gail Lindley

Date: December 20, 2021

Denver Bookbinding Co. owner was the consummate small-business owner

DENVER, Dec. 20, 2021—From Tony Gagliardi, NFIB Colorado state director, on the passing of Gail Lindley, owner of Denver Bookbinding, Co. Founded in 1929, it is the oldest family-owned bookbindery in the country.

“Gail Lindley’s passing has devastated us, not only because she was the embodiment of all the best qualities that make up a consummate small-business owner, but also because of her commitment to fostering a viable small-business environment in Colorado.

“The entire small-business-owning community in Colorado has benefited from her testimony before the Legislature and her support of fellow small-business owners. She was always willing to give her time to someone. It never mattered who you were, or what you were, she always listened. When she disagreed, it was with respect and tactfulness.”

From Diana Petrak, Colorado Policy Pathways
“Once, we were sitting in her lobby area. She was sharing her property tax woes and staffing challenges. She helped me gain a more accurate understanding of today’s brushes with CDLE [Colorado Department of Labor and Employment]. The whole time, customers would come and go — some with commercial requests/orders.  I think she took orders big and small. She would walk over and attend to them. It seemed that that business was an extension of her (and her family) in so many ways.”

From Jim Noon, owner of Centennial Container
“We have worked on many projects together. Such shocking and sad news.  She will be missed by more than you know.”

From Roger Hays, president and CEO of Premier Employer Services
“She was an icon and someone we all could look up to in the business community. She was a wonderful person and an ardent fighter for small business and common-sense legislation. She will truly be missed by so many of us.”
