Small Business Endorses Diane Dixon for State Assembly

Date: September 28, 2020

Change needed from incumbent’s “abysmal” voting record on issues of Main Street survival

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 28, 2020—The political action committee for California’s leading small-business association today announced its endorsement of Diane Dixon for the 74th State Assembly District seat.

“This was not a difficult choice to make,” said John Kabateck, California state director for NFIB. “Diane Dixon knows the issues important to small business and fundamentally gets that small businesses are not smaller versions of big businesses. Add to her business acumen her public service experience as Newport Beach mayor and she would bring to the California Legislature experience that is badly needed, especially now. Meanwhile, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris’ voting record on issues vital for small-business survival is abysmal. On the votes taken in the 2019 session that we based endorsements for incumbents on, she scored an anemic 20% and her votes taken in the 2020 session were no improvement. At a time when everything must be done to encourage small businesses to re-open and the ones already open to stay open, she was part of a legislative bloc that saddled Main Street enterprises with more regulations.”

The endorsement of Dixon was made by the NFIB CA PAC and based on responses to a questionnaire. Petrie-Norris did not fill out the candidate questionnaire.

The 74th Assembly District includes the Orange County communities of Costa Mesa, half of Huntington Beach, 2/3rds of Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, and Newport Beach.
