NFIB California Podcast—New Laws for 2022 Small Businesses Need to Know

Date: November 04, 2021

Guest Ben Ebbink, a labor and employment law expert, highlights eight laws of importance affecting Main Street

As it did last year prior to the start of the New Year, NFIB California invited one of the state’s top labor and employment law experts to discuss new laws taking effect that small-business owners should be aware of.

Ben Ebbink, a partner in the Sacramento office of Fisher & Phillips LLP, shares his views on what lies ahead for small businesses in 2022. Ebbink is also legislative advocate and principal of FP Advocacy LLC., who brings two decades of experience in labor and employment law to the firms he counsels, including 15 years as chief consultant to the California Assembly Committee on Labor and Employment.

He has played a key role in virtually every major labor and employment issue to come before the Legislature during his tenure, and earned a reputation for his integrity, ability to work with diverse stakeholders on all sides, and as a skilled problem-solver.

Ebbink sat down with NFIB California’s chief legislative advocate, Kevin Pedrotti, for a 25-minute discussion on what lies ahead for small businesses, providing more detail on:

Ebbink and Pedrotti also discussed the effect the recall election had on the legislative agenda, looked ahead to the 2022 election, and what issues might surface again. Bereavement leave and cannabis were two. Another: “I could see them bringing back some form of paid supplemental sick leave,” said Ebbink about lawmakers.
