Small Business Cheers Ducey's Lawsuit Settlement Plan

Date: October 28, 2015

PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 28, 2015—Arizona’s leading voice of small-business job-creators today welcomed reports of an agreed framework—with no tax increases—to settle a looming K-12 funding lawsuit that threatens to bust the state budget with an immediate $1.3 billion in court-ordered spending on K-12 education.
“Remarkable! By crafting a $3.5 billion plan to increase K-12 funding over the next decade without raising our taxes one cent, Governor Doug Ducey, legislative leaders and education representatives have earned the gratitude and support of Arizona’s small-business owners for forging a well-reasoned solution to a potentially devastating court ruling,” said Farrell Quinlan, Arizona state director for the National Federation of Independent Business, America’s voice of small business.
“We are eager to work with lawmakers and Governor Ducey’s office during a special session to pass this critical legislative package that includes a referral to a May 2016 special election ballot to gain voter approval for the new education spending, which uses existing resources rather than raising taxes.”
