For the legislative week ending January 16

Date: January 16, 2015

Lawmakers are mostly back in Juneau getting ready for the beginning of the 29th Legislature, Tuesday, January 20, 2015.
This will be a session focused first and foremost on the state budget. Dropping oil prices may reduce general fund revenues by $3 billion or more.
Forthcoming weekly reports will have more details on bills of importance to small business. One thing to keep in mind is that bills which may not have a direct impact on small business may affect sections of statute that would allow amendments that could be of concern. House Bill 2, which would exempt some unpaid students from the Wage Hour Act, is one such example.
