JUNEAU, Alaska, July 26, 2018—NFIB presented Rep. Dan Saddler its top award, July 25, at a ceremony in Eagle River.

“Representative Saddler has a strong voting record supporting small businesses,” stated NFIB member Chuck Homan of Homan Inc. “He understands that small businesses are a significant part of Alaska’s economy, employing many Alaskans and contributing to many local activities such as little league teams and many other youth activities. Dan knows small businesses are owned and operated by our neighbors who are committed to the future of our communities.”

Denny DeWitt, Alaska state director for NFIB, praised Saddler for stopping from passage many bills harmful for small business. “Rep. Dan Saddler is second to none when it comes time to speak up for small business,” said DeWitt. “His knowledge and articulation have persuaded his colleagues to kill bad-for-small-business bills in committee and on the floor of the State House. Every small-business owner in Alaska owes him a debt of gratitude for making their solvency more possible and future a lot brighter.”

Dan Saddler subscribes to the philosophy that government should not make the survival of small businesses in Alaska more difficult than it already is. He understands that small businesses are unique in their needs and contributions to Alaska’s economy; they are not just small versions of big business.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, 99 percent of all businesses in Alaska are small businesses, which employ 53 percent of the state’s workforce. Saddler is only one of three Alaska legislators to receive a guardian this year. The others are House Republican Leader Rep. Charisse Millett of Anchorage and Sen. Pete Kelly, Senate President, of Fairbanks. Media are invited to tomorrow’s ceremony.
