Gov. Kay Ivey is urging Alabama employers to make Aug. 12 “Get Counted Day.” Under the campaign, owners would urge their employees to complete the 2020 Census.
U.S. Census Bureau has a constitutional mandate to count the population of the United States and five U.S. territories once every 10 years. State officials say only 60% of Alabama households have completed this year’s census.
The census is used to determine how many seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives, and it’s used to draw congressional and state legislative districts. The census also provides critical data used to allocate billions of dollars in federal funding for roads, schools, health care and other resources.
