Google Brings Prosperity to Alabama Businesses

Date: June 04, 2019

A report from Google shows use of its resources has major impact on local businesses.

Google’s recently released its 10th annual Alabama economic impact report stated that the company helped generate $923 million worth of economic activity for Alabama businesses, website publishers, and nonprofits.

Throughout 2018 more than 9,000 businesses across the state used Google search and Google’s advertising tools to promote and connect with consumers, according to the report. Additionally, local nonprofits received $1.12 million of free advertising through the Google Ad Grants program.

The Grow with Google initiative, a program aimed at helping create economic opportunities for first-time entrepreneurs, came to Alabama in August of 2018. Workshops were held in local libraries to teach various attendees about various digital resources and skills, according to Yellow Hammer News.

On a national scale, the report stated Google’s search and advertising tools helped provide $335 billion of economic activity for more than 1.3 million businesses, website publishers, and nonprofits in 2018.

Another recent study, commissioned by Google, showed that over 80 percent of small businesses are not fully using online digital tools. However, the study also determined that digital small businesses are almost three times as likely to have created new jobs in the past year.
