Duggan: 'The Small Business Economy is on Fire.'

Date: September 19, 2018

Ahead of August’s Small Business Jobs Report and a historic Small Business Optimism Index survey, NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan made a guest appearance on Fox Business to discuss the report’s record-high results.

“The small business economy is on fire,” said Duggan during her appearance. “It’s the best small business economy we’ve seen in [almost] 50 years.”

Hitting a 45-year high for new job openings, the monthly report, which was released September 6, showed that 23 percent of business owners plan to create new jobs, 24 percent plan hire additional employees, and 62 percent of owners report an increase in efforts to hire—up 3 percent from last month’s report.

In a press release for the jobs report, 25 percent of business owners ranked finding a qualified applicant as their “single most important business problem,” a 2 percent increase from last month’s report.

The momentum continued this Tuesday, when NFIB released its record-breaking Small Business Optimism Index numbers. The index soared to a historic reading of 108.8, a new record in the survey’s 45-year history.

“The August jobs report shows, once again, that small businesses are hiring, raising wages, and expanding the workforce, which ultimately benefits the economy,” Duggan said in a separate press release. “Small business is booming in this country and the need for workers is critical.”
