Alabama Runoff Election Delayed Until July 14

Date: March 17, 2020

Secretary of State John H. Merrill said today the state’s primary runoff election, originally scheduled for March 31, has been pushed back to July 14 because of the coronavirus.

Likewise, the last day to register to vote in the runoff has been pushed to Monday, June 29.

“The guidelines prescribed by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Alabama Department of Public Health have made it clear that it is no longer advisable for the people of Alabama to go to the polls to vote on March 31,” Merrill said in a statement.

He said the delay would give local election officials the time to assess and evaluate the necessary changes.
