Five agenda items lead off priorities for a new session,
Rolling back environmental taxes and fees a top goal.
Repeal of Gas Tax and Carbon Fees
NFIB supports repeal of the recently passed low-carbon fuel standard and “cap and invest” carbon tax. These laws are estimated to increase fuel prices at least 50¢ per gallon once fully implemented. Energy, manufacturing, shipping, and related costs will also rise, adding to inflationary and supply chain pressures already facing small businesses.
Limiting State of Emergency Executive Authority
In May 2022, Washington state surpassed the 800-day mark of Governor Jay Inslee’s ongoing state of emergency. NFIB will continue to support changes limiting these emergency powers and requiring greater legislative oversight during declared disasters or other emergencies.
Stopping Ergonomics Proposal
NFIB will oppose every effort to allow the state Department of Labor & Industries to once again regulate repetitive motions or impose ergonomic requirements on our state’s employers.
Supporting Right to Repair Legislation
NFIB supports legislative efforts to allow consumers and small repair shops greater access to the parts, tools, and instructions they need to repair personal electronic devices such as cellphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Fighting for Stronger Organized Retail Theft Penalties
NFIB will again pursue greater criminal penalties and the establishment of an interjurisdictional taskforce — along with more resources for law enforcement — to deter and punish organized retail theft.
