Small Business Applauds Landmark Supreme Court Ruling in Janus
Decision will bring balance to public policymaking process in Sacramento and beyond

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 27, 2018 – Following the much-anticipated United States Supreme Court ruling in Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, NFIB’s California State Director John Kabateck issued the following statement on behalf of our 20,000+ dues-paying small business members:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling in Janus v. American Federation represents a major victory to more than 1.5 million unionized public employees here in California who’ve been denied their right to opt-out of funding political activity with their hard-earned paycheck. Further, this decision is a victory to many voices, including small business owners, who are drowned out of the policymaking process by the undue influence of highly funded public employee union advocacy at the state and local levels. One need only to review the long list of pending and enacted legislative measures seeking to blunt the impact of this decision on unions’ revenue stream of mandatory dues, currently generating more than $1 billion in California annually.

“It is our hope and expectation that this decision will bring much-needed balance to the policymaking process in Sacramento and beyond, while restoring every worker’s right to freely associate with a union, or not.”
