Make Your Voice Heard: Prepare to Vote Your Federal Ballot

Date: May 02, 2019

Dear NFIB member,

Small business entrepreneurs continue to be the driving force behind America’s sustained economic growth. That’s the message NFIB has been taking to state small business days, meetings with policymakers, and the media. I discussed this recently on CNBC, where I addressed the tight job market and how tax relief has sent small business optimism shooting through the roof.

Thanks to the Small Business Deduction that entrepreneurs were able to take advantage of for the first time last month, we’re seeing the NFIB Small Business Optimism Index remain at high levels we’ve never seen before. NFIB’s research is second to none, so it’s important to take the opportunity to continue to remind the overall business community and policymakers of the outsized role small business plays in our economy.

For many of the small business owners I’ve spoken with, tax relief has made it possible to raise wages or cover the cost of additional training. For others, the Small Business Deduction was exactly what they needed to stay afloat.

Relief specially crafted to assist small business didn’t just appear out of nowhere. NFIB had a seat at the table, which we used to remind lawmakers what our membership needs to succeed. Policymakers paid attention because they know that NFIB is the voice of small business, and has been for 75 years. We rely on NFIB members to tell us what’s important, not the other way around.

So don’t forget to return your federal ballot, which will be sent out next week. The ballot is how we ensure our priorities are your priorities. You can vote your ballot online or from your phone using the NFIB Engage app, which is available for free on both Apple and Android devices.

It’s also worth noting that May 5 through 11 is National Small Business Week, which the U.S. Small Business Administration uses to highlight the useful work it does. Of course, at NFIB, we think every week is small business week. We’re going to keep fighting for the NFIB small business community in the days, weeks, months and years ahead — as we have for the past 75 years.

Sincerely,

Juanita D. Duggan, NFIB President
