What Should Oregon Small Business Owners Expect for 2018?

Date: September 18, 2017

Dear NFIB/Oregon members,

Lawmakers were back in Salem earlier this week for a series of public hearings focused on state agency updates and the implementation of recently passed laws, but also to preview the priority issues that we can expect to see during the 2018 legislative session – the “short”, 35-day session that will begin in February.

Some of those issues include a Cap & Trade proposal, a new Paid Family & Medical Leave program, and changes to the way that Oregon taxes businesses. Business owners concerned about their bottom lines should be paying attention – and looking for ways to get involved.

That’s what the National Federation of Independent Business is all about: To promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses.

And there’s strength in numbers:

Member Benefits: By leveraging the purchasing power of over 325,000 members, NFIB gives access to many business products and services for members. These savings help your bottom line, and include everything from office equipment, technology and credit card processing to operational supplies, business counselling, commercial and personal insurance, business/financial products and services, and even payroll services.

Grassroots Activism: When NFIB members join their voices together and
speak out, lawmakers listen. When you share the real-world impact of a proposed or implemented law or regulation, your testimony can be the deciding factor in persuading a legislator to stand with NFIB.

Redirect Your Tax Dollars to Support Pro-Small Business Candidates: Did you know that Oregon offers a tax credit for political contributions? You can reduce your Oregon Income Tax liability by $50 if your federal Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is under $100,000 or by $100 if you file jointly and your AGI is under $200,000. This credit applies to contributions made to candidates running for office in Oregon only, or to political action committees that are registered in Oregon, including NFIB’s ORPAC.

These are just a few ways you can get more involved and take full advantage of your membership with NFIB.

Thank you for standing up for your independent business!
