NFIB/Maryland Event Series Roundup: What You Missed

Date: June 17, 2015

NFIB has hosted and attended some wonderful events over the past month. It’s always great for us to get out of the office and meet our members face to face. We love hearing your stories and getting to know you better.  If you made it to one of our recent events, thank you for attending! If you haven’t made it to an NFIB event yet, I hope you will join us at the next event in your neck of the woods.

May 27 – End of Session Wrap-Up Reception with Lt. Governor Boyd
Rutherford hosted by Patricia Baldwin at her business Reliable
Contracting in Gambrills, MD

It’s always an honor when we can host someone like the Lt. Governor Boyd
Rutherford.  He gave a great speech and gave us some “real talk” about
how things are going in Annapolis. He was also gracious enough to shake
hands and take photos with everyone in the room. You can view all of the
photos here.

While the Lt. Governor was the star of the show, we also really enjoyed seeing familiar faces and meeting new members in person.

We hope you can join us in Gambrills the next time Patricia Baldwin hosts us at her business.

June 10 – “The Future of Fracking in Maryland” with Drew Cobbs, API

We
were happy to make it over to Cumberland to see our members in that
neck of the woods. We hosted a very informative meeting with Drew
Cobbs who is an expert on the fracking issue. Drew  has been the
Executive Director of the Maryland  Petroleum Council  for 23 years and
API’s Eastern Region director  for 15  years and we were lucky to have
him.

It was great meeting our members
in Western Maryland. There was a lot of enthusiasm in the room for
bringing fracking to the area and the economic benefits that could
potentially help Western Maryland.

June 12 – NFIB Member Business Sunrise Safety Services’ 20th Anniversary

We attended the 20th Anniversary
Celebration of Sunrise Safety Services in Glen Burnie. Cathy Vogel,
founder of Sunrise Safety Services, is a true small business success
story. She started her business in June of 1995 in an 8’x12’ room in her
basement. She started with $35,000 and four employees. Cathy and her
employees worked hard for many years installing pavement markings, doing traffic control and
striping the highways.  Sunrise is now housed in a 30,000 square foot
facility with 80+ employees, a fleet of 31 trucks and is the largest
minority owned sign fabrication shop manufacturer in the State of
Maryland.

It’s not a surprise that
Cathy has done so well over the years; she treats each and every staff
member like family and has even adopted some NFIB staff members into the
Sunrise family. See more photos of the 20th Anniversary Celebration here

If your business has
an anniversary, ground-breaking ceremony or if there’s another milestone that you’re
celebrating, let us know! We would love to share your story.

It
has been a busy couple of weeks for us and we will be taking a break
from meetings since many of our members will be taking vacation,
traveling for business, attending conferences and enjoying family time.
We’re already planning a series of meetings in the fall and look forward
to seeing all of you! Once again if you would like to host or have an
idea for a meeting, please let us know, we love hearing your ideas!
