Anthony K. Smith
Oregon State Director

Anthony K. Smith is the Oregon State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business, the country’s largest and leading small-business association, with 300,000 members nationwide – and over 6,000 in Oregon.

An Oregon native, Smith was born and raised in Corvallis and attended Oregon State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.

In 2010, Smith relocated to Arizona and went to work for an NFIB member from northern Arizona running for the United States House of Representatives. Smith served as the campaign’s Director of Operations and went on to serve on the transition team after the campaign was victorious in sending a small business owner to Congress.

During the newly-elected Representative’s first term in office, Smith served as Deputy District Director and Business Liaison, where he worked with constituents and federal agencies to find commonsense solutions to difficult challenges for a district with both urban and rural concerns.

During the election cycle of 2012, Smith set his sights on a new challenge and served as a Field Representative for an incumbent Congressman running for a seat in the United States Senate.

With two federal campaign victories under his belt, Smith’s next goal was to serve in the private sector, supporting the cause of free enterprise. He found the perfect fit in January of 2013 with NFIB, when Smith was hired on as a Member Support Manager in the West Region State Public Policy division based out of Phoenix, Arizona. Smith worked with NFIB state directors in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah to support NFIB’s lobbying and member activism campaigns to stop harmful legislation and pass pro-small business bills that ultimately contribute to NFIB’s mission statement: To promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses.

In August of 2015, Smith returned to his home state of Oregon to head up NFIB’s state public policy and political operations in Salem. He is grateful for the opportunity to advance the good work of NFIB in Oregon; to grow NFIB’s membership and influence, and to ensure that the voice of small business is heard in Salem.

Smith is married to Whitney Keys Smith of Brookings, Oregon. The Smiths enjoy spending time with their many Oregon family members across the state and they can be regularly found in small, mom & pop restaurants sampling unique and inventive culinary creations.
