Electing pro-small business candidates there will influence the direction of the federal government for the next two years – lower taxes or higher taxes, less red tape or more regulations, relief for small businesses, or continued uncertainty during the COVID-19 crisis.
NFIB Senior National Political Director Sharon Sussin says of the contests, “The small business agenda boils down to what happens in the Georgia runoff elections. Based on the records and positions of the incumbents and challengers, it is clear these races make the difference in whether small businesses will face higher taxes, or more regulations. Senators Perdue and Loeffler have been reliable champions for small businesses in Congress, and we have no doubt they will continue to support pro-small business issues in the Senate.”
Why wasn’t this decided in November?
On November 3rd, both U.S. Senate seats in the state of Georgia were up for election, and Georgia election law requires winners to receive 50% of the vote. No candidates received the necessary 50% of the vote, so the top two vote-getters now advance to a runoff election to be held on January 5. The leadership of the United States Senate for the next two years – and therefore the balance in the federal government – hinges on these two U.S. Senate runoff elections in Georgia. The contrast between the candidates and where they stand on small business issues could not be clearer.

Senators Perdue and Loeffler are both NFIB Guardians of Small Business based on their votes on key small business issues while in Congress. It is critical that they are elected on January 5th to return to the pro-small business U.S. Senate.
What is NFIB doing to support these pro-small business candidates?
The NFIB FedPAC, the organization’s political action committee, announced yesterday its endorsement of Senators Perdue and Loeffler as part of an effort that includes advertising, member grassroots engagement, and voter education.
NFIB was heavily engaged in the 2020 Georgia elections and will continue with a six-figure advertising and grassroots investment in the runoff. This includes a broadcast and digital ad campaign to drive support for Senators Perdue and Loeffler, distributing voter guides to NFIB members, providing grassroots engagement opportunities, and promoting voter education.
