Shoppers spent a record $17.8 billion on Small Business Saturday this year, according to a report from NFIB and American Express. That’s an increase from last year’s $12.9 billion spent at small, independent stores and restaurants across the nation.
“Small stores carry unusual gifts you might not find at a chain store, and you are likely to get service with a personal touch. A business owner wants you to be happy because they want return customers,” NFIB State Director Chris Carlozzi told the Boston Herald.
The event is “a way to boost the local economy,” Carlozzi said. “Small business is a powerful economic engine and supporting its success helps keep that engine running.”
