Texas Small Business Owners Flock to the Capitol

National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)/Texas, the state’s leading small business association, hosted the sixth annual Texas Small Business Day at the Capitol event on Feb. 3, featuring speeches from a number of state leaders including Governor Greg Abbott.
The event will bring together small business owners from across the state with state leaders to speak about issues impacting business in the wake of the 84th Legislative Session. Guest speakers to the event include: Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Comptroller Glenn Hegar, House Speaker Joe Straus, Senator Charles Schwertner, NFIB Small Business Legal Center Executive Director Karen Harned, and NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg.
“This event truly represents the heart of our organization, as small business owners’ voices are heard by state leaders and legislators who can hear firsthand the daily impact of public policy on small business,” said Will Newton, NFIB/Texas Executive Director. “While these businesses are the economic backbone of the state, more than 96% of all businesses in Texas are small business, these owners do not have the resources to be heard at the Capitol like big corporations do.”
NFIB has 24,000 dues-paying members in Texas representing a cross-section of the state’s economy.
As small businesses face unique challenges with limited resources, this event helps the small business voice to be heard as public policy changes are considered during the 84th Legislative Session. Business owners will have a chance to hear about impending legislation that may impact their business and they can share their personal experiences of the successes and challenges that go along with it with their legislators.
