Here's a look at some of NFIB/Virginia's issues may face in the 2012 General Assembly:
Card check: Legislation guaranteeing workers' right to cast secret ballots in union organization elections failed to pass the General Assembly in 2011. NFIB/Virginia will continue to oppose card check and support a process that is fair to employers and doesn't open employees to union intimidation.
Health insurance mandates: NFIB/Virginia will continue to oppose bills requiring employers who offer health benefits to cover specific conditions and treatments. While they may be well intentioned, mandates help few while driving up the cost of health insurance for everyone.
Win 2nd-round approval for a constitutional amendment on eminent domain: During the 2011 session, legislators passed a proposed state constitutional amendment to protect private property rights. The proposed amendment limits the government's ability to seize property for anything other than public use. The same resolution must be approved again in 2012 by the General Assembly before the citizens of Virginia can vote on it.
