Tax Law

NFIB has a long history of aggressively pushing Congress and the IRS to lighten the tax law burden that can overwhelm small employers. Bringing the tax simplification battle to the courts is an example of why NFIB established the Small Business Legal Center.

In 2001, the NFIB Small Business Legal Center won a key victory in the fight to simplify compliance with the tax code. The Legal Center successfully fought to overturn a U.S. Tax Court decision that would have forced small businesses to run through a confusing maze of tax calculations to comply with tax law, as opposed to simply deducting certain annual expenses.

The NFIB Small Business Legal Center will continue to fight for ways to simplify compliance with an overly burdensome and confusing tax code in Congress, the IRS and in the courts.
