Who We Are

The National Federation of Independent Business is the nation's leading advocacy organization representing small and independent businesses. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, NFIB represents the consensus views of its members in Washington and all 50 state capitals.

Our mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses. We accomplish this by leveraging our powerful network of grassroots activists and professional staff to support our members on the issues and political candidates that they determine. By placing our members in a role of real influence in the halls of power and the ballot box, we get results like no other organization does.

'...the most powerful lobbyist in Washington.'
- CNBC's Capitol Report

The NFIB membership is a reflection of American small business, spanning the spectrum of business operations, ranging from one-person cottage enterprises to firms with hundreds of employees. And we know you want to run your business on your own terms - free from unreasonable costs, intrusive regulations, and burdensome taxes. Therefore, we're at the frontline in the battle to achieve a pro-growth legislative agenda, which includes:

?Affordable Health Care
?Stopping Union Intimidation
?Curbing Lawsuit Abuse
?Simplifying the Tax Code
?Reforming Eminent Domain Laws
?Reducing Mandated Regulations

NFIB is truly the 'voice of small business' and will continue to lead the fight to protect free enterprise for as long as small-business owners believe that achieving the American Dream is worth the sacrifice and risk.

'...the nation's premier small-business organization.'
