Small-Business Political Involvement

NFIB, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, works aggressively to ensure that the small-business community is represented in the U.S. Congress and state capitals across the country by elected officials who support and protect free enterprise.

This critical objective originates from our faith in our nation’s democratic traditions; the understanding that entrepreneurs take a leading role in politics and public affairs, and the belief that elections undoubtedly impact the public policy making process.

“…the only way a small-business owner can influence decisions that are made by government…is by political involvement.”
- Jim Gislason, NFIB Member

In that spirit, we cultivate a network of thousands of politically active small-business owners. Collectively our goal is to strategically support candidates who have shown a commitment and dedication to small businesses and the families, employees and communities that depend on them. With no regard for party affiliation, we provide these candidates with grassroots and political support that leverages the strength and influence of the small-business community.

The small-business community is well-positioned to cut through the clutter of political distortions and misrepresentations that so often occur in heated elections. By evaluating candidates and their stances on small-business issues, we can protect our businesses, our employees, our families and our communities at the ballot box.

“…I wanted to elect candidates who knew what it was like to have to make a payroll.”
- Joni Paladino, NFIB Member

The results of our efforts are clear – near-universal voting participation among the small-business community, the activation of tens of thousands of NFIB members in the political process, and hard-fought election wins for small-business-friendly lawmakers.
