Michael Rounds signed House Bill 1005. As you will recall, that measure deals with real property taxes. It implements an oversight advisory task force which is to report to the 2009 and 2010 legislative sessions relative to the issue. The bill goes further, however, and requires implementation of a productivity methodology for real property taxes.

NFIB/South Dakota Legislative Update -- Jan. 15, 2008

We testified last Friday in front of the Senate Taxation Committee on SB 14. That measure, introduced at the request of the Department of Revenue and Regulation, deals with tax audits. As you'll recall, last year we were able to obtain additional opportunities for small business people to submit documents in support of their position during a tax audit. SB 14 is complementary to that effort. It increases from 30 to 60 days the time frame within which a taxpayer may request a hearing. It also gives the taxpayer 60 days, rather than the prior 30 days, during which time the taxpayer may either pay the assessment or request a hearing. The committee approved the bill unanimously and sent it to the full Senate.

Tue, 15 Jan 2008 00:00:00 PST
