In New Hampshire's budgeting process, there is a call in mid-February every two years of "let the work begin," as the governor delivers his proposed budget to the General Court for consideration and deliberation by 400 House members and 24 state senators.

Mon, 19 Feb 2007 00:00:00 PST

Given the 400 members in the House, the change in leadership control and approximately one-third of the members being new to the process, the orientations have been extremely instructive for legislators and lobbyists alike.

Mon, 15 Jan 2007 00:00:00 PST

John H. Lynch was sworn in for his second term on Thursday. School children led the pledge of allegiance, students from the University of New Hampshire sang the national anthem, the state poet read one of her poems and clergy from various denominations and parts of the state invoked a blessing on the state and its administration. Just after Chief Justice John Broderick administered the oath to him, the governor administered oaths to the five executive counselors. No matter how many times one has seen an inauguration in person, it's a moving tribute to democracy and our governmental system.

Mon, 08 Jan 2007 00:00:00 PST
