After stockings are unstuffed and presents part company
with the tree, give the holiday green light to recycling

DRNEC encourages Delawareans to “Go green” this post-holiday season by recycling their Christmas trees at a yard waste drop-off site in New Castle County or at selected state parks in Kent or Sussex County. Trees and other greens, free of ornaments, wire and tinsel, can be dropped off at one of six locations statewide through Jan. 19. DNREC also asks that you not forget the wrapping, packaging and party goods with your good recycling and reuse intentions for holiday materials.

Venison for the needy via DNREC, DOC
and hunters' Sportsmen Against Hunger

The Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) in Georgetown has partnered with DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife's Sportsmen Against Hunger Program to process venison distributed statewide to more than 20 charitable organizations. In the four years since joining DNREC in support of the program, the correction facility has processed more than 26,000 pounds of venison. New Killens Pond Nature Center is
unveiled as environmental standout
Delaware State Parks' new Killens Pond Nature Center was dedicated recently by Governor Ruth Ann Minner. The new center near sits amidst the state park's forested land and the shore of Killens Pond near Felton, allowing park visitors to enjoy the natural setting that surrounds it. The building was designed and built following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles, and is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council as an environmentally-friendly structure. It boasts geothermal features for heating along with innovative rainwater collection and onsite wastewater treatment.
