'We're in a Rough Patch Now'
10/30/2008

Small business, however, remains 'the engine of the American economy,' Stottlemyer says

The U.S. economy may have hit a rough spot, but small businesses "will lead us out of it," said Todd Stottlemyer, president and CEO of the National Federation of Independent Business.

Speaking on Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce's public policy breakfast at the Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Stottlemyer said, "We're in a rough patch now," but small business remains "the engine of the American economy."

But while the sluggish economy had created new challenges for businesses of every size, healthcare reform is still the No. 1 issue facing small business owners, Stottlemyer said. "We must have reform," he said.
