ATLANTA--The National Federation of Independent Business, Georgia's leading small business association, has presented state Rep. Tom Knox with the 2008 NFIB Guardian of Small Business award. Knox represents the 24th District, which is comprised of part of Forsyth County.
The Guardian of Small Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues. NFIB/Georgia's Leadership Council voted to present this year's award to Rep. Knox after his work in this year's legislative session.
"Tom Knox stood up for Georgia's entrepreneurs and small, family-owned businesses when he sponsored a health savings account bill supported by NFIB," said David Raynor, state director of NFIB/Georgia. "Rep. Knox's bill included a tax credit for small employers who offer high deductible health plans with HSAs.
"He also helped kill a mandated leave bill in the House Industrial Relations Committee," Raynor said. "Small business owners should be free to offer the benefits package that's right for them. They don't need state government dictating sick leave or any other employee benefit."
"Small business is the heart and soul of Georgia's economy, and small business owners are fortunate to have a strong supporter such as Tom Knox in the General Assembly," Raynor said. "NFIB/Georgia is pleased to recognize his efforts by presenting him with the Guardian of Small Business award."
