Ohio’s Minimum Wage to Adjust Upward Again in Connection to Inflation
10/06/2008

Starting Jan. 1, Ohio employers must comply with an increase in the state minimum wage from $7.00 an hour to $7.30 an hour (and from $3.50 an hour for tipped employees to $3.65 an hour).

The increase comes as a result of a constitutional amendment that was approved by Ohio voters in 2006 that requires the minimum wage to rise in accordance with rises in inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The Ohio Department of Commerce announced that the CPI increased by 4.6 percent in the year ending Aug. 31. The amendment calls for a corresponding increase in the minimum wage to take effect on Jan. 1 of the following year.
