State

40 days and counting
NFIB announced its endorsement of Judge Greg Shaw for a seat on the Alabama Supreme Court and Judge Bill Thompson for reelection to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals. NFIB/Alabama State Director Rosemary Elebash said, "NFIB/Alabama members and other business owners have struggled with lawsuit abuse and liability costs and NFIB members believe Judge Shaw and Judge Thompson will be fair and mindful of the impact their rulings may have on Alabama's Main Street job creators."

Hometown Connection 67-County Bus Tour
NFIB members are invited to attend events at the "Bus Stop" when NFIB-endorsed judicial candidates visit your county. The bus tour began on Monday, Sept. 22, and will continue through Oct. 22. Here's where you can meet Judge Greg Shaw and Judge Bill Thompson.

Five steps to take before Election Day
Your help is needed during this year's election. As a small business owner, you have a huge stake in the results. Below please find simple ways to make a difference.

    • Register to vote. It's the first, easiest and simplest way to get involved. It's also the most important. Take advantage of NFIB's convenient voter registration program at NFIB.com/politics. The site takes the hassle out of the process and provides you quick step-by-step instructions on how to register.
    • Check your address. Even if you're 100 percent sure you've registered to vote, remember to check your address. Have you moved? Did you update your address? Don't wait until you get to the wrong polling place on Election Day to update your records.
    • Encourage your employees to register. You may worry about appearing as though you're forcing your political views on your staff. But reminding employees to register is completely acceptable and extremely important.
    • Send an e-mail to your contacts reminding them to register. Remind your friends and family how important it is for them to register. Make it easy by including a link to NFIB.com/politics, where they'll conveniently find all the information necessary to register to vote and be able to read about which candidates are pro-small business.
    • Request an absentee ballot. Small business owners are busy people. How many times have you been unable to leave the office during the day because you were completely swamped with unexpected situations? Don't miss your chance to vote on Election Day. Request an absentee ballot.
