FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, Kentucky's leading small business association, has presented state Rep. Brad Montell with the 2008 NFIB Guardian of Small Business award. Montell, an NFIB member, represents the 58th District, which is comprised of Shelby County and part of Spencer County.

The Guardian of Small Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues. NFIB/Kentucky's Leadership Council voted to present this year's award to Rep. Montell after his work in this year's legislative session.

"Brad Montell stood up for Kentucky's small business owners by crafting a floor amendment that derailed an attempt to pass 'comparable worth' legislation (House Bill 382) that would have opened small business owners to lawsuits for alleged wage discrimination," said Tom Underwood, state director of NFIB/Kentucky. "Representative Montell's amendment added sections that required education and experience be included as determining factors when employers set wages."

"Small business is the heart and soul of Kentucky's economy, and small business owners are fortunate to have a strong supporter such as Brad Montell in the General Assembly," Underwood said. "NFIB/Kentucky is pleased to recognize his efforts by presenting him with the Guardian of Small Business award."
