FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, Kentucky's leading small business association, has presented state Rep. Jeff Greer with the 2008 NFIB Guardian of Small Business award. He represents the 27th District, which is comprised of Meade and parts of Bullitt and Hardin counties.
The Guardian of Small Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues. NFIB/Kentucky's Leadership Council voted to present this year's award to Greer after his work in this year's legislative session.
"Jeff Greer stood up to overwhelming pressure to fight off two healthcare mandates that would have driven up the cost of health insurance for small businesses," said Tom Underwood, state director of NFIB/Kentucky, the state's leading small business association. "Bills brought by chiropractors and multi-billion dollar dialysis clinic owners would have meant higher premiums at a time when small business is struggling to retain basic coverage for their families and employees.
"Small business is the cornerstone of the commonwealth's economy, and small business owners are fortunate to have a strong supporter such as Jeff Greer in the Legislature," Underwood said. "NFIB/Kentucky is pleased to recognize his efforts by presenting him with the Guardian of Small Business award."
