WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, the nation's leading small business association, has endorsed Sen. John Barrasso for election to the U.S. Senate.

The endorsement comes from NFIB's Save America's Free Enterprise (SAFE) Trust, the organization's political action committee, and is based on voting records and positions on key small business issues to evaluate the candidates' views on legislative issues affecting small business.

"As a small business owner and member of NFIB himself, Senator Barrasso has a deep understanding of Wyoming's entrepreneurs," said Lisa Goeas, NFIB's vice president, political. "His support of tax relief, including the elimination of the estate tax, and simplifying the tax code for small business owners has been vital to creating a climate that allows them to invest in and grow their businesses."

"As a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Senator Barrasso has made increasing production of domestic energy sources a top priority," Goeas continued. "Small business owners have told us, in NFIB's Small Business Problems and Priorities, that this is their second most critical problem, and we look forward to working with the senator in the next Congress on this issue."

Today's endorsement puts the considerable grassroots support of the state's small businesses behind the Barrasso campaign. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the influential small business voting bloc on Election Day. According to NFIB polling data, small business owners and their employees make up 43 percent of registered voters in America.
