WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, the nation's leading small business association, today announced its endorsement of Anne Northup in the race to represent Kentucky's 3rd U.S. Congressional District.
"Anne Northup is the proven pro-small-business candidate in this race. She was a key ally of small business throughout the 10 years she served in Congress for the 3rd District," said Lisa Goeas, NFIB's vice president, political. "During her tenure in the House, she voted in favor of permanent repeal of the death tax, tort reform to limit frivolous lawsuits, and the creation of small business health plans."
NFIB's political support is based on the candidates' positions and records on small business issues. Northup's endorsement comes from NFIB SAFE (Save America's Free Enterprise) Trust, the organization's political action committee. The endorsement brings the considerable grassroots support of Kentucky's small business owners to the Northup campaign.
"Throughout her Congressional tenure, Anne sat on the House Appropriations Committee, where she worked to reduce government spending, and eliminate wasteful and duplicative programs," Goeas added. "Her intimate knowledge of the community, economics and the federal government allows her to create tailor-made solutions for the people she represents, including many small business owners."
Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the influential small business voting bloc on Election Day. According to NFIB polling data, small business owners and their employees make up 43 percent of registered voters in America.
