WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, the nation's leading small business association, has endorsed Sen. Jeff Sessions for reelection.
Announcements of the endorsement were made today at Sessions campaign events held at Selwood Farms, owned by Dell and Carolyn Hill in Alpine, and Buckner Barrels in Springville, owned by Frank Buckner. Both businesses are NFIB members.
The endorsement comes from NFIB's Save America's Free Enterprise (SAFE) Trust, the organization's political action committee, and is based on prior voting records to evaluate the candidates' views on legislative issues affecting small business.
"Senator Sessions has a deep understanding of Alabama's entrepreneurs," said Rosemary Elebash, state director of NFIB/Alabama. "His support of tax relief and affordable healthcare options for small business owners has been vital to creating a climate that allows them to invest in and grow their businesses."
"Senator Sessions has been a good friend of small business since he arrived in Washington," said Lisa Goeas, NFIB's vice president, political. "He has provided key leadership on important issues such as tort reform and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the next Congress."
Sen. Sessions also is a consistent winner of NFIB's Guardian of Small Business award, given to those members of Congress who vote to protect free enterprise.
Today's endorsement puts the considerable grassroots support of the state's small businesses behind the Sessions campaign. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the influential small business voting bloc on Election Day. According to NFIB polling data, small business owners and their employees make up 43 percent of registered voters in America.
