Issue would mandate paid sick leave for Ohio employees
Ohioans for Healthy Families -- a labor-backed coalition -- filed nearly 240,000 signatures with the Ohio Secretary of State on Aug. 5 in attempt to place the Issue 4 on the November ballot. 120,683 valid signatures from 44 of Ohio's 88 counties are needed in order for the proposal to go before voters. This proposal would be the most onerous mandate placed on any state in the country, as it would require all businesses in Ohio with 25 or more employees to provide seven paid sick days to all employees working 30 or more hours per week, and a prorated amount of leave for all part-time employees. The National Federation of Independent Business/Ohio is adamantly opposed to this government mandate on Ohio's businesses.
NFIB/Ohio serves on the executive committee of Ohioans to Protect Jobs and Fair Benefits, a coalition of business groups and citizens working to defeat the mandate. The coalition will lead the fight to educate Ohio's citizens about the destructive effect this mandate would have on Ohio's already crippled economy.
