Runoff election Tuesday
The election runoff is Tuesday, July 15. The only statewide runoffs are on the Republican ticket. The following statewide races will be on the ballot plus the 2nd and 5th District Congressional races along with some local/county races:
- Public Service Commission President: Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh or Matt Chancey
- Court of Criminal Appeals: Beth Kellum or Lucie McLemore
- 2nd District Congressional race: Jay Love or Harri Anne Smith
- 5th District Congressional race: Cheryl Baswell Guthrie or Wayne Parker
Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Don't forget to vote tomorrow!
Second special session may be in the near future
Gov. Bob Riley is expected to call the Legislature in for a special session later this summer if Volkswagen decides to build an assembly plant in north Alabama. The Legislature would need to approve an incentives package for financing in order to attract the company to Alabama. If the Legislature approves the incentives package, it would go before voters in the form of a referendum on the November ballot.
Lawmakers could vote to borrow the money or take a lump sum from the Alabama Trust Fund, a savings and investment account that funds a portion of the state budget.
