ATLANTA -- The National Federation of Independent Business, Georgia's largest small business association, has endorsed Sen. Bill Cowsert for Senate District 46 in the July 15 primary election.

"Senator Cowsert has been an outstanding supporter of Georgia's small, family-owned businesses," said David Raynor, state director of NFIB/Georgia. "He supports small business on issues ranging from supporting market-driven health insurance reforms to using tax credits to spur job growth in less developed parts of the state.

"Senator Cowsert has shown that he understands the vital role small business plays in Georgia's economy. Senator Cowsert understands that small business employs nearly half of the state's non-farm workforce and creates most of the nation's new jobs," Raynor said. "Senator Cowsert is the managing partner of his law firm, and as a small business owner understands the vital role small business plays in Georgia's economy. The National Federation of Independent Business will do everything it can to help Sen. Cowsert win reelection."

NFIB/Georgia's endorsement is important to Sen. Cowsert. Small business owners and their employees vote in large numbers and often recruit friends, family members and acquaintances to vote as well. NFIB/Georgia promises to encourage its urging its members in Sen. Cowsert's district to support him in both the primary and general elections.

"NFIB's support in this election means a lot," Sen. Cowsert said. "Small business is too important to Georgia's economy not to support it. I'm proud of what we've accomplished for Georgia's entrepreneurs and family-run businesses, and I hope I'll be given the opportunity to help small business even more."

"It is clear that Senator Bill Cowsert understands that small business drives our state's economy, producing high-quality products, services and jobs," said Irene Dodge, an NFIB/Georgia member and owner of Elements Art Supply in Athens. "Senator Cowsert has a proven record of working for lower taxes and reduced government regulation to provide relief for all small businesses within the 46th District."

Sen. Cowsert is vice chairman of the Higher Education Committee and a member of the Appropriations, Judiciary, Special Judiciary, Reapportionment and Redistricting and State Institutions and Property committees. Sen. Cowsert is a partner in the Athens law firm of Cowsert & Avery and past president of the Athens Sertoma Club and Clark County Heart Association.

"Senator Cowsert is a true friend of Georgia's small, family-run businesses," Raynor said. "Our members will do all they can to support him in the primary and general elections."
