Speakers to discuss different views on improving access, affordability
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The National Federation of Independent Business and AARP will present "Two Views on Healthcare Reform," a discussion with Dr. Dan Crippen and Dr. Len Nichols, on Monday, June 2, from 4-6 p.m. at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh, N.C.
Dr. Crippen is a domestic policy advisor to Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign. He also is the former director of the Congressional Budget Office and was once named one of the "50 Most Powerful People in Politics" by George magazine.
Dr. Nichols directs the health policy program at the New America Foundation, a nonprofit public policy institute based in Washington, D.C. He also served as senior advisor for health policy in the Office of Management and Budget in 1993-94 under President Clinton.
NFIB/North Carolina and AARP are sponsoring the forum as part of their work with Divided We Fail, a nonpartisan national healthcare reform coalition that also includes the Service Employees International Union and Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies.
"NFIB's alliance with AARP, Business Roundtable and SEIU in Divided We Fail demonstrates that we're taking all necessary steps to change the political climate so that policymakers will fix America's broken healthcare system," said Gregg Thompson, state director of NFIB/North Carolina. "Small business owners, their employees and dependents make up the largest segment of the uninsured population. We must raise the national debate to a new level so policymakers will focus on providing solutions that address what has become a national crisis for America's job creators."
"When healthcare is fixed for small business, it will be fixed for America," Thompson said.
